Getting The Results You Want

The results you are getting right now are NOT from what you think they are. Most people think they are caused by their actions and behaviors. They are not. Let me explain.

Every day I hear: “If I just had more __________, I would be happy/successful/enter your desired emotion. The blank is usually some form of money, time, or resources.


How many times have you said something like this?


“If I just had more capital, I could take my business to the next level.”

“If I just had more time, I could get in shape.”

“If I just had better employees, I could really grow my business.”


THIS IS BACKWARDS THINKING!!!!!

(These are just few of the ones I have heard this week.)


There is a quote that I have heard for years by Jim Rohn and others:

“You want things to change FOR you, YOU must change.”


Stop a moment and let that sink in. It changes the formula that most people are using to get the results they want in life.

The formula that WORKS is you must BE first.

You have to BECOME the person who can DO the right things effectively and consistently to generate the results in your life.


You need to spend MOST of your time working on YOU. Learning, growing, developing the skills and abilities to provide greater VALUE to the marketplace.

Most people think they get paid for their time on the job. Which is understandable. Most people are paid an hourly wage, or a salary based upon them showing up and putting in 40 hours a week of “work”. THIS IS FALSE.


A few days ago, I had the privilege to visit with young man who is turning 15 this month. He is wanting to get a job. I gave him two golden nuggets that if he uses them will dramatically change his life.


#1 – Go to work to learn. Especially in the beginning, people need to learn how be good at things like sales, customer service, and effective communication. Which are pretty much only taught on the job. Take a position for what you can learn from it versus how much you get paid.


#2 – You get paid not for your time. You get paid for the VALUE you bring to your employer. If you want to always have a job, don’t just do what’s in “the job description” do whatever your makes your boss’s job easier. Being a good employee is easy: Show up early, work the whole time you are there, be willing to learn, and bring a positive can-do attitude. It is that simple.


But I don’t see him working for someone else very long. He already realizes the benefit of being his own boss and providing services to the marketplace.

I also gave him a warning. You are going to find that most of the employees have the wrong mindset. They work enough to get by, some just enough to keep from getting fired. When you show up and do your best, you make them look bad. Don’t conform to their way of thinking. They have average thinking, get paid an average wage and live an average life. They major in minor things. They accept their mediocrity.


If you want more than that, you must BE more. You must become more valuable. The way you do that is to work harder on growing yourself than you do on the job. You do that by fueling the desire to be more and then taking action to grow and develop the skills and abilities that our world is desperate for. People who add significant value to others. Those are the people that are highly rewarded for the value they provide.

For without action, even though you want to change, you won’t. You have to commit to the effort of becoming and do it consistently for the change you want to become a reality.
